Possession of surplus energy is, of course, a requisite for any kind of civilization, for if man possesses merely the energy of his own muscles, he must expend all his strength - mental and physical - to obtain the bare necessities of life.

Editorial Mitt Romney A Very Dangerous Man To The Worlds Climate
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney delivered yesterday (23rd of August) a severe attack on the green economy. His criticism of renewable energy, action on climate change and the environment is one of the most stringent and severe attacks we have so far seen from the Republican party and is not in line with science.

He seems to be lured into a false security of thinking that the only way of creating American jobs is a gung ho approach to drill baby drill. If Romney were to become President (which I don't think he will) it would be absolutely devastating for the global action on climate change. It would be a likelihood that the White House will firmly adopt a climate skeptic view and thereby will be the only developed country in the world who does so and as a result from this is to likely withdraw itself from any future climate negotiations and that would send shock waves through the world.

Many environmentalists might be extremely unhappy with what Obama has achieved but he does at least share the view that man made climate change is happening and has spurred on a large investments in renewable energy and has introduced some regulations through the clean air act something that Romney will surely overturn as he will amend the clean air act to exclude it from regulation of carbon dioxide (CO2).

Romney did not stop short of an extremely harsh attack on renewable energy: 'The failure of windmills and solar plants to become economically viable or make a significant contribution to our energy supply is a prime example' Which was said in reference to favoring certain energy technologies. He also said: 'The green technologies are typically far too expensive to compete in the marketplace, and studies have shown that for every green job created there are actually more jobs destroyed'. It does not appear Romney has paid a visit to Iowa the Republican run state, they are number one in the US on the percentage of energy generated by wind power at 15%. You can only start guessing how they will feel about Romney trying to kill and industry that have resulted in mass economic growth and jobs creation. It also rebuffs the claim that they're inefficient and doesn't work, which is another claim of Romney.

His claim that the renewable sectors should work without subsidies otherwise they're not cost competitive doesn't add up to the fact, that the fossil fuel industry receive large tax breaks and billion worth of subsidies. He is also planning to open up for offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico which will be seen as extremely insensitive to all the people who suffered and still are suffering from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Alongside this he will immediately give permission to the construction of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline.

Romney's claims that the reason for all this is to become energy independent which all in all is a good thing and something we should all strive to become, but one of the first steps is to reduce energy and introduce energy efficiency which is not even mentioned in his energy. The reason that he has not considered quite likely boils down to the fact that it's not in his interest or in the interest of the oil companies and car companies that are controlling the Republican party. America have large wealth of renewable energy sources that could make the country become energy independent. Obama sees that and are making strides towards that. Romney would be wise to endorse that view and not going back to the dark draconian ages.
