Solar Panels May Be In Cellphone Screens Soon

Solar Panels May Be In Cellphone Screens Soon
Michigan State University researchers have created a device that can turn any window or glass sheet, even a cellphone screen, into a solar cell. The device, called a solar concentrator, is completely transparent. This means the technology can be used in a variety of settings including skyscrapers or e-reading devices.

Earlier incarnations of solar concentrators have only been partially transparent, so could not be practically used in many applications.

This time around, researchers used a different method for gathering sunlight. The result is a nearly transparent sheet with two black strips along the edge (these strips convert the solar energy into electricity).

These completely transparent solar concentrators will be affordable to consumers, and will offer a wide range of possible uses, from large industrial projects to small personal electronic devices.
