The minister informed that there was surge in the installation of wind energy. In the year 2012-13 wind energy installation was 1,700 MW and in the year 2013-14 it was 2079 MW.
The minister added that in order to give boost to the wind power projects, the government was providing the private sector with fiscal and promotional incentives like GBI for the projects not availing the benefit of accelerated depreciation, under which Rs 0.50 per unit of electricity generated is provided with a ceiling of Rs 1.00 crore per MW
The minister further stated that the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) in Chennai was providing the technical support, which included wind resource assessment and identification of potential sites.
